Share, store and save your files online
Google Drive provides users with a way to store their files on Google's servers. This is a free application that works as an extension of Google’s email platform and provides users with a folder on their Mac where they can drag certain files that will be backed up on the cloud.
Each Google Drive user is provided with 30GB of cloud storage free of charge that is shared across Drive and Gmail. People who find that this is not enough space can receive unlimited store for a fee if they wish.
As long as users stay within the specified space and file size limits they can store files of any type. It is also possible to move entire folders into Google Drive.
Google drive provides an app that is compatible with the android platform. This means that all mobile devices that use Android can sync with Google Drive, while a dedicated app for iPhones and iPads is in the pipeline.
Because Google Drive works to encrypt data between a user’s computer and the Google servers, it is very safe and secure. This precaution helps to ensure that casual hacker are unable to capture files simply by monitoring or intercepting the user’s Internet connection to Google.
Although My Maps are not available offline, a wide range of other types of applications such as Sheets, Docs, Slides and Forms can be accessed without an internet connection. Drive files can be made available for offline use through Drive File Stream.
Google Drive excels when it comes to its search capabilities and users are able to perform quick searches within the document files that they have uploaded using optical character recognition that runs in the Google Cloud, while the free 5GB of storage is a big incentive.
It order to use Google Drive, users must have a Google account. This account also syncs with a number of other Google services and can be created free of charge.
Local files that are not created with My Maps or Docs editors will still exist on the computer in the usual way thanks to Backup and Sync. Any future changes that are made to the local files will not sync because the computer will be unable to authenticate with Drive.
In order to share a specified folder with people in your contacts list, simply add their email address or contact name and click on share. The people who you share the folder with can also add files to the folder if they wish.
